A FACE TO A NAME: INSPIRING PEOPLE FEAT. SHAUNA SIEGER.

what do you do and where do you do it?
I do various things in the current vicinity of Brisbane, I'd like to say I am a writer but I don't believe I have proved myself enough to crown that title yet. As of late I have been contributing to a Zine called Lost, where I interview Brisbane based artists on a broad scale of questions, some serious and some that dig past the interior of oneself. It is a whole heap of fun and I get a kick out of meeting new people with refine skills in the creative industry, it's my first project and I see it as a learning platform for me for future endeavors. Along side that I also write on my own personal blog posting images that catch my eye and written pieces i've also done, i'm slowly getting my shit together, I think. Berlin is my next 'where' and it is creeping up ever so shortly, soon i'll be boarding, sitting in that designated seat and clutching ever so tightly to that one way ticket.

what does your typical day look like?
It's quite a regular routine as of late, I simply open my eyes, work to play, and I sleep to dream. In more detail though during the days I work in a quaint little cafe on Brunswick Street in New Farm and explore the neighbourhood around dusk time to clear my mind, it's my favourite time of day. While at nights I attempt to cook, it mostly consists of a healthy based meal but at times I do cave in and have a chocolate biscuit kind of dinner. I wind down the evening by watching current programs or indulging in a book with a cup of tea to accompany me. I won't lie I am slowly crawling up the walls here, I guess you could call this city a big country town that i've walked these streets before, seen the same people and i've lost my mind plenty of times, it's all too familiar in my eyes now.

where do you draw your inspiration from?
I feel a certain unwary pleasure from conversations with people as I believe everyone has a story, we all have come from somewhere to be here today. I also crave the honesty and flavours that flow from the mouth that our minds have consciously articulated and then spit out, I seem to walk away with a satisfaction like no other. Books of recent as well have fed me inspiration, aspects in particular philosophy and erotica's I find it stimulating and it leads me to question unanswered thoughts I have running in my mind. I write mostly in my white paged black leather book or I use my notepad on my iphone if abroad and it comes very naturally, my inspiration is drawn from five years ago, to the other side of the world and it's also sitting right next to me.

PRODUCTS FOR THE FACE

lets talk skin. it's only been the last year that i've started taking notice of the products im using and i feel like i've almost found my perfect face routine:

kiehl's ultra facial cleanser daily other than 2-3 days a week of st ives apricot scrub, kiehl's ultra facial cream for the day time, kiehl's midnight recovery oil with a top coat of neutrogena oil-free moisteriser for bed time and when my skin is feeling dull i'll use the dermalogica multivitamin masque and aesop parsley anti-oxidant eye cream which leaves my face glowing.

A FACE TO A NAME: INSPIRING PEOPLE FEAT. BRIAN KANAGAKI.

a new feature on habotai where i photograph and briefly interrogate creatives and generally inspiring people.

who better to kick start this off than my handsome husband, brian kanagaki.

what do you do and where do you do it?
I live a little bit of a double life. I spend months at a time on tour with my band Loma Prieta and then ill come home for a month and work on my design career, then take off again for a few months. Last year (between various bands) I was on tour for a about 6 or 7 months and traveled for another 3. Its pretty hard to call any place home. San Francisco is where I say I am from even though I am hardly ever there, my time off tour is spent with my wife in whichever country she is living in at that time, UK or Australia. I haven't had an apartment for the last 2 years but San Francisco will be a more permanent base towards the end of this year. Luckily I can take my laptop/camera with me everywhere I go so I can always work on design projects and keep my life together.

what does your typical day look like?
My life is split between being on tour or at home doing freelance work. There isn't really any such thing as a normal tour day. Everyday is a different city, different drive, different climate. I guess the day goes something like this: wake up, go get breakfast/coffee, drive 5-10 hours, unload and play for 30 minutes, eat dinner around 2am and then go to bed. When I am 'home', wherever that may be, I wake up and try and get a coffee as soon as possible and then come back and check emails and then push stuff around on my computer for a few hours until I'm tired and then take the rest of the day off. Most of my ideas come to me in the second half of the day when I am just out and about not thinking about anything.

where do you draw your inspiration from?
I get a lot of my motivation to work and produce new music/art when I am on tour. Being on the road and stuck in the van for hours at a time really lets my mind just wonder and I work out a lot of ideas. The long stagnant hours make me crazy so when I am home I work harder to make up for the time wasted just sitting there doing nothing. I am really lucky that I get to travel so much as well. Seeing new cities and countries so often is a huge inspiration to me. I get to meet new people and see so much everyday. Its hard not to be inspired. I love just wondering around new places checking out the local spots.
